about felt
Felt is the oldest fabric known to humankind.
Before the loom, before weaving, there was felt. The oldest remains found in Türkiye date back to 6500 BC—thousands of years before anyone imagined thread and needle.
It is not woven or sewn. It is made. The wool fibers are mixed, moistened, and rubbed together until they are irreversibly intertwined—a process that in our hands is simply called work.
The result is a unique material: seamless, without weft, without warp. Just pure wool, compacted to achieve the desired shape, density, and texture.
At Süd Wolle, we work with pure sheep's wool felt. We select it from industrially produced cloths, using the same technique of layering fleece fibers that has been used for over eight thousand years. With this material, each piece we design is cut and finished by hand.
There's something from Süd Wolle for every corner of your home, your work desk, and your gifts.
